"Greater works than these, shall he do," John 14: 12

By Ken Raymond,

1st Vice-Chair

No words can properly express the depth of heartbreak and loss felt by most Americans when Charlie Kirk was assassinated.

After I heard about it, I was hopeful that he would recover. But several hours later, I read that he died...and I felt completely numb and very angry.

I’m sure most of you experienced something similar at varying levels. And I’m sure you asked yourselves the same question I asked, which was “what will happen to Turning Point, USA without Charlie Kirk?

I’d like to offer a potential consequence of this horrific event that is likely to unfold during the next few months, and possibly the next few years. This outcome is based upon biblical scripture and history.

The possibility of this outcome has provided some comfort to me. And during this tragic time, I hope it will provide comfort to all of you.

In the book of Acts, chapter 6, we read the story of Stephen. The Bible describes Stephen as being full of faith and wisdom—much like Charlie Kirk.

Stephen was chosen by the disciples to help take care of widows and the poor in Jerusalem.

One day, Stephen found himself in a public debate with multiple individuals of different beliefs about the gospel of Jesus Christ.  And in verse 6 of the same chapter, the Bible says “…and they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit with which he was speaking,”…again, much like Charlie Kirk!

One by one, they challenged Stephen with questions and one by one he answered them…much like Charlie Kirk.

Stephen stood against multitudes of individuals and answered all their questions about the Mosaic Law, the Gospel, and Jewish traditions. His wisdom and knowledge backed all of them into a corner. And some of them were teachers and Stephen made them look bad.

Stephen debated them for a long time until one day, his opponents realized that they couldn't defeat him. So, they stirred up the people against him, made false accusations against him, and publicly executed him…just like Charlie Kirk.

Charlie Kirk led conversations with his faith

At the time of his execution, however, there was someone present that would eventually take up the mantle and I don’t believe it was a coincidence. I believe God had this person present as a harbinger to all that wanted to stop Stephen.

No one had a clue that he would carry the mantle forward, not even the person himself. This person was the Apostle Paul who went on to preach the gospel in 22 cities throughout the Middle East, Arabia, Asia, and region surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. Paul also establish nine churches and write two thirds of the New Testament.

The Bible shows a clear history of martyred Christians facilitating what I’ll call a “greater works than these, shall he do” continuance of ministry.

Let’s look at Jesus himself. During the Last Supper in which Jesus was with his disciples just before He was about to be taken, tried, beaten, and crucified, He explained to them that it was the Father that performed the miracles during His ministry. It was the Father that raised Lazarus from the dead, fed thousands with five loaves and two fish, healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, and many other things.

And in John 14:12, He told the disciples that if they believed in Him, that the Father would do miraculous works through them.

But then he added, “…and greater works than these, shall he do” referring to the person that believes in Him.

The disciples saw Jesus perform many great miracles. I’m sure it was hard for them to believe that they could continue the Lord’s ministry and work greater miracles. But a close study of their lives, after the resurrection, shows us that they did!

We also see this in the Old Testament. In 1 Kings chapter 17, we read about the ministry of Elijah. Among the miracles performed through Elijah were several incidents in which he called fire down from heaven.

Elijah had his own disciple named Elisha. And in 2 Kings 2:9 we see that Elisha had twice the empowerment of Elijah to continue Elijah’s ministry.

In less than a week after the shooting, we’re beginning to see “greater works” coming from Turning Point, USA.

During his 12 years as CEO of TPUSA, Charlie Kirk established chapters in 900 colleges, across the county, and about 1200 high schools. —which is absolutely phenomenal!

But since the assassination, TPUSA reports that they received about 18,000 requests for new chapters in colleges across the county. And Club America, the high school version of TPUSA, is growing exponentially as well.

“Charlie’s vision to have a Club America chapter in every high school in America (about 23,000) will come true much faster than he could’ve possibly imagined,” TPUSA posted on their X account.

And I believe this is only the beginning!

Charlie Kirk visited schools where students were not educated, but indoctrinated, and brainwashed to accept progressive ideology and to believe that being "woke" was the moral high ground. Hundreds of students would gather around his tent, stand at the microphone, and simply repeat whatever their liberal professors told them.

But before the event was over, the light of truth was shed in each of their minds. And it was enough light for those students to begin to question what they were being taught and undo the damage being caused at these colleges. College students were being deprogrammed.

Charlie Kirk was the best of us. He was a sincere Christian, fearless, intelligent, articulate, hard working, and compassionate. He and his family were examples of wholesomeness that no American ever thought today's families could achieve.

His assassination is a tremendous loss to all of us. However, there is good reason to believe that we will all see his work in high schools and college campuses become more successful than Charlie Kirk could ask, and more than he could think.

And we can all take comfort in that.

North Carolina Democrats plan to infiltrate the NCGOP

And seek help to improve their image

NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons warned the Central Committee about a Democrat plan have their candidates change their affiliation to Republican to help their chances of getting elected or reelected in 2026 during the Central Committee meeting at NCGOP headquarters this weekend.

And district chairs warned that the Democrats are turning to the GOP for help with their public image and their credibility.

For almost two years, the Democrats have been hemorrhaging voters like never before. The shift in voter registration numbers has been mainly due the Democrat position on issues such as illegal immigration, the LGBTQ agenda, and crime in big cities nationwide.

But the assignation of Charlie Kirk and subsequent celebrations of his death on social media has virtually destroyed their credibility with the general public and threatens to collapse any support that remains. District 1 Chair Harvey West reported that the Edgecombe County Democrat Party chair contacted Edgecombe GOP Chair Jason Dilday and asked him if he would do a joint press conference with him. District 12 Chair Addul Ali reported the same thing in Mecklenburg County, however the Democrats asked if the local GOP would issue a joint statement to the media with them.

The Democrats in Edgecombe County wanted a show of unity as they denounced the assassination of Charlie Kirk and the public celebrations of his death that followed.

Chairman Dilday declined to do the joint press conference.

"They're want to use us as cover," West said. "They want to be able to say the general public 'the Republicans don't believe that we commit political violence so no one else should either.'  "

West asked all district chairs to contact their county chairs and urge them not to participate in any joint press conferences or issue any joint statements with the Democrats.

Chairman Simmons also informed committee members that if anyone wanted to find out about Democrats switching to Republican only to get elected next year, please go to www.nceducatorsontheballot.com

The latest voter registration numbers

NCGOP Political Director Matt Judge reported a statewide net gain of about 7,200 newly registered Republicans since the last Central Committee meeting.

"The deficit that stood at about 650,000, in 2016, is now at about 11,000 today," Judge said. "And that's thanks to all of the hard work that each of you have done in your counties and districts."

In District 10, Iredell County led the way with 321 new registrations followed by Catawba County with 180, Lincoln County with 147, and Yadkin County with 50.  Forsyth County, however, lost 144 registrants to ranks of the unaffiliated.

Brunswick County leads the way, statewide, in new Republican voter registrations.

Major fundraising program underway

Finance director Larry Sheehan reported that fundraising for 2026 is proceeding very well.

"We're at 14.9 percent of our major funding program," Sheehan said. And on Tuesday, September 30th, we're starting our fundraising for the North Carolina Conservative Judges Campaign."

Sheehan said that defeating Democrat Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls will be a high priority for the NCGOP.

Settlement with the State Board of Elections

NCGOP legal counsel Alton Absher reported that the U.S. Department of Justice is working to reach a settlement the Republican-controlled State Board of Elections.

"There has been some litigation filed by the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice," Absher said. "And if a settlement is agreed to, it still has to work its way through actually getting finalized because there are some objections by some of the liberal interests groups who attempted to intervene into that litigation and are represented by Marc Elias."

Roland Bell elected 2nd Vice Chair of D10

Tom Dees appointed Finance Director

Roland Bell was elected 2nd Vice Chair and Tom Dees was appointed Finance Director during the District 10 Executive Committee Meeting at the Village Inn and Event Center in Clemmons earlier this month.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve our district as second vice chair and I'm committed to building a stronger future by recruiting and involving the next generation of Republicans," Bell said via text.

Dees said, "I want to thank the wonderful members of the 10th District Republican Party for unanimously approving me to serve as Finance Chairman for the District. This is an extremely important role that governs an important committee and serves on both the state Finance Committee and the State Executive Committee."

D10 Executive Committee votes to establish its own

Plan of Organization

The executive committee started the process of establishing it's own Plan of Organization during its meeting in September.

The primary of difference between the D10 plan, which must be approved by delegates of the 10th District Convention next year, and the state plan is that the D10 Plan will include a Code of Conduct which are basically rules for communication via social media for committee members.

The new D10 Plan may add the position of assistant treasurer. The current State Plan of Organization does not recognize the position of assistant treasurer for district committees.

Mike Owens, of Forsyth County, was appointed to be chair of the three-member committee to draft the D10 Plan. Owens is also a member of the State Plan of Organization Committee.

D10 passes a resolution honoring the life and legacy

of Charlie Kirk

The District 10 Executive Committee passed a resolution to honor the the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk as a builder of the American spirit.

A portion of the resolution reads as follows:

Whereas, Charlie Kirk, a visionary patriot and founder of Turning Point, USA, has dedicated his life to empowering the next generation of conservative leaders, fostered a movement that champions freedom, opportunity, and the unyielding principles of the American Founding; and

Whereas, through his tireless advocacy for limited government, free markets, and traditional values, Charlie Kirk has built enduring institutions and inspired millions to engage in civic life of our nation, transforming skepticism into action and division into unity;

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the 10th District Republican Committee of North Carolina assembled in solemn recognition on this 13th day of September 2025, that we hereby honor the extraordinary life and indelible legacy of Charlie Kirk as a builder of the American spirit, whose work has fortified the hearts and minds of countless citizens in pursuit of liberty and justice.

A letter from D10 Chair Alex Nelson

Dear Friends,

We are just ordinary men and women trying to do our best to move the needle in a positive direction. I will admit sometimes it is hard to know what the right choice is. Everyone has a different definition of what right looks like.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, ordinary men and women stood tall against impossible odds at the founding of our great nation. They believed in liberty so strongly that they risked everything for it. Today, we stand on their shoulders — blessed with freedom but also charged with the responsibility to defend it.

This September, as I looked across the room at our district meeting and saw leaders from every county represented, I was filled with gratitude. That gathering wasn’t just another meeting — it was proof that we are united, we are strong, and we are ready to fight for the future of North Carolina.

A Season of Trials, A Call to Courage

The last few weeks have not been easy. Many of us have felt weary, even discouraged. But hard times reveal true character. We are not defined by the struggles we face, but by how we rise above them.

I know this: our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against ideas that seek to tear down faith, erode family, and strip away freedom. We cannot allow division, finger-pointing, or apathy to weaken us. We are God’s children first, parents and grandparents second, and proud conservatives because we know our values are worth defending.

Service and Sacrifice

Everywhere I travel across our district, I see reminders of what makes America exceptional. From county fairs to church gatherings, from veterans’ parades to small business ribbon cuttings, the heart of our people beats strong.

I will never forget standing at the Soldiers Reunion Parade in Catawba, seeing veterans and families lining the streets — reminders that our freedom has been bought with blood, sacrifice, and service. These are not just ceremonies; they are sacred commitments to honor those who came before us and to prepare the way for those who will follow.

That’s why I refused calls to cancel the Tri-County Veterans Day Parade. We do not hide from the world. We stand proudly in it. We honor those who wore the uniform. We celebrate courage, not fear.

Looking Ahead with Hope

Friends, we are at a crossroads. Radical politicians want to redefine America, strip away our traditions, and put government in the place of God and family. But that is not who we are.

We believe in faith over fear, freedom over control, and service over self-interest. We believe that parents, not bureaucrats, should shape their children’s future. We believe in strong borders, safe communities, and opportunity for every hardworking American.

And we believe North Carolina’s best days are still to come.

Join the Fight

I cannot do this without you. This campaign is not about me — it is about us. It is about our children and grandchildren. It is about preserving what is right, true, and good for the next generation.

Join us today. Stand with us. Pray with us. Fight with us.

Together, with God’s guidance, we will protect our families, strengthen our communities, and keep America the land of the free.

Onward, always together.

Catawba County GOP hosts its annual

Lincoln/Reagan Day Dinner

By Ben Devine,
Catawba County GOP Chair

The Catawba County Republican Party hosted its annual Reagan Day Dinner this past Friday,September 19th, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Hickory.

The attendees listened to inspiring speeches from both State Auditor Dave Boliek and U.S. Congressman Pat Harrigan. Among the many attendees were all five of District 10’s County Chairmen: Bodie Wingler (Yadkin), Tim Flinchum (Forsyth), Sean McGowan (Iredell), Marty Brown (Lincoln), and Ben Devine (Catawba),
along with 10th District Chairman Alex Nelson.

We also want to congratulate our 2nd Vice Chair, Deby Thornburg, on winning this year's Jesse Helms Award and extend a special thank you to District 14 Chairman, Jonathan Fletcher, for serving as our Master of Ceremonies at this year's dinner.

Thanks to everyone who attended; we hope to see you all again next year.

Vote to end automated speed cameras

This week I introduced the Freedom from Automated Speed Enforcement Act to put an end to automated speed cameras that treat drivers like ATMs. These systems don’t make roads safer. Instead, they churn out mass fines without judgment or due process, and they quietly drain the pockets of hardworking Americans under the false banner of public safety. Real safety comes from police officers who can make judgment calls, stop reckless drivers in real time, and build trust in their communities—not from machines that can’t tell who’s behind the wheel.

My bill cuts 10% of federal highway funds from states that rely on speed cameras, with narrow exceptions for clearly marked school zones and active construction sites. If states want federal dollars, they should be investing in real law enforcement, not outsourcing safety to cash registers on poles.

Vote to keep the government open

I also voted for the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act to prevent a government shutdown and keep critical federal services running through November 21. North Carolinians sent me to Washington to bring discipline, not chaos, and this bill ensures veterans, seniors, and families aren’t hurt while Congress finishes the job of passing full-year conservative appropriations.

The measure keeps agencies funded at current levels, protects Social Security and Medicare, supports defense programs, and extends community health services — all without raising pay for Members of Congress. This is not a substitute for fiscal responsibility, but it gives us the time we need to secure the border, rebuild our military, and cut waste.

Vote to condemn the assassination of Charlie Kirk

This week I voted to condemn the assassination of Charlie Kirk and honor his life and legacy. Charlie was a husband, a father, a Christian, and a patriot who was murdered for refusing to be silent. His legacy is proof that bullets will never replace debate in this country.

But 58 Democrats voted against this resolution. That tells you everything you need to know about where their party stands. Political violence should never be partisan, yet they couldn’t bring themselves to condemn it. I was proud to cast my vote to honor Charlie Kirk and make it clear: we will never back down.
