Local GOP organizations censure Senator Thom Tillis

The executive committees of GOP organizations in Catawba County, Iredell County, and Lincoln County have strongly denounced U.S. Senator Thom Tillis for his refusal to support Ed Martin, President Donald Trump’s nominee for U.S. Attorney of the District of Columbia.

A written statement from the Iredell County GOP, signed by Chairman Sean McGowan, expressed the following: “Your failure to stand behind the President’s nominee undermines the will of the millions of voters who continue to demand accountability, constitutional integrity, and leadership unafraid to confront the entrenched bureaucracy in Washington. Ed Martin is a proven champion of these values—an advocate for judicial fairness, government transparency, and the rule of law. Your refusal to endorse his appointment is unacceptable.”

This is not the first time GOP activists expressed their displeasure with North Carolina’s senior senator. In June of 2023, Senator Tillis was also censured by a majority of the delegates of the NCGOP State Convention for his support of the “Respect for Marriage Act” which supports same-sex marriages.

But despite the conflicts with his base, Senator Tillis has announced his intention to run for reelection next year.

The Forsyth County GOP will address this issue during their meeting later this month. However, there is no word from the Yadkin County GOP about the issue.

Dave Boliek speaks during county chairman's bootcamp in Greensboro

State Auditor Dave Boliek provided an update on his activities, in Raleigh, during the County Chairman’s Boot Camp, in Greensboro, last weekend.

The boot camp is an event sponsored by the NCGOP that provides training and guidance for newly elected county chairmen, as well as information for district chairs. There were 44 new county chairs elected, statewide, and six new district chairs.

Dave Boliek’s spoke, primarily, about the North Carolina State Board of Elections which his office now has oversight. Among the items Boliek will address include review of Numbered Memos issued by former State Director of Elections Karen Brinson Bell to local boards of elections. The memos are directives issued to county boards of election which led to numerous violations of election laws. Boliek also plans to upgrade the state’s elections equipment and perform much needed maintenance of the state’s voter data base.

Boliek also said that his predecessor left about 40 vacancies, in the state auditor’s office, that he is more than willing to fill. So far, Dave Boliek has added 10 new investigators to the state auditor’s office. Dave Boliek also told attendees that the audit of the NC Department of Motor Vehicles is well underway.

Other speakers included NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons, RNC Chairman Michael Whatley, NC Representative Luke Stancil, Director of the NC Republican House Caucus, and Carlos Cardenas from the NC Leadership Institute.

Catawba County prepares for first-ever encounter LGBTQ activists

Catawba County GOP Chair Ben Devine

The executive committee of the Catawba County GOP is bracing itself to deal with the convergence of LGBTQ activists, from across the state, in Newton in late June, during an event called “Newton Pride Takeover 2025.”

The event is sponsored by the Democrat Party of Catawba County and will take place Monday, June 23rd through Sunday June 29th.

Republicans in blue counties, such as Forsyth, Guilford, and Durham, deal events like this on an annual basis.

However, Republicans have always held more than a 2-1 advantage in Catawba County.  This will be the first time radical leftists will gather, in the county, in an attempt to get Catawba residents to change their views.

During the meeting, in which 53 members were in attendance, the biggest concern was that fact most of the promoters and supporters of the “Pride Takeover” are individuals from outside Catawba County and possibly from around the country.
