Seismic shift in voter registration numbers

leads the discussion during the NCGOP Central Committee meeting

The long-time voter registration gap enjoyed by North Carolina Democrats, since the Reconstruction era, is closing very quickly according NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons.

"We continue to see a steady decline in Democrat numbers,"Simmons said. "And we have to continue to beat that drum with seminars, webinars, and voter registration drives."

Historically, the Democrats held the numbers advantage for about 145 years. In 2020, the Democrats led by about 395,000 registered voters statewide, according to the State Board of Elections.

Today, the difference is down to 18,327 voters. And, according to Simmons, about 100,000 unaffiliated voters are susceptible to switching their party affiliation. Simmons expects the seismic shift to a GOP majority in voter registration to happen by the beginning of 2026.

NCGOP Executive Director Matt Judge provided that voter registration numbers, for each district since the last Central Committee meeting, which was May 10th.

In the 10th District, Iredell County leads the way with 212 newly registered Republicans since May.

They're followed by Catawba County with 176, Lincoln County 127, Forsyth County with 86, and Yadkin County has 30.

Fundraising

On the national level, the RNC is outpacing the DNC in fundraising. The RNC has raised about $80 million, for 2026, and the DNC has raised about $50 million. The same thing is happening with congressional and senatorial committees. "We need to take advantage of the environment we're in and continue to tie all Democrats to their national party," Simmons said.

Legal Update

NCGOP Legal Counsel Alton Absher reported that the three-judge panel that heard a federal lawsuit that challenges the state's congressional and legislative maps has ended. The trial was held in Winston-Salem and was filed by The NAACP, Common Cause, and individual voters. The plaintiffs in the case accused the NC General Assembly of racial gerrymandering.

Forsyth County elected state and local officials present legislative update during FCGOP Men's Club Meeting

FCGOP Men's Club President Alton Absher led a panel discussion with state house member Jeff Zenger, Senator Dana Caudill Jones, and Forsyth County Commissioner Gray Wilson which provided attendees a clear snapshot of recent activities of our state and local government.

About 30 individuals attended to hear the remarks at Little Richards Barbecue at 109 S. Stratford Road. Absher began the discussion by asking Zenger and Jones about any surprises from our new governor Josh Stein.

Zenger pointed out that Stein is very different than Roy Cooper in that Stein contacted each representative, individually, to talk about their legislative priorities. Zenger also pointed out that Stein is still actively fundraising which implies that he may have aspirations beyond Raleigh.

Gray Wilson said that it appears that the school board's financial crises may get worse.  Wilson told the group that school system may have a deficit of about $49 million. He also said that schools administration failed to follow state law by seeking approval of the school board for many expenditures over the years.

Wilson also informed the attendees that several county departments have new directors. Those departments are the Animal Control Board, EMS, and Behavioral Health.

Zenger and Jones also talked about the Reins Act, which protects businesses and residents from costly regulations and a law to protect women in sports.

CORVID Technologies to build

a new plant in Mooresville

It was great to be back home last weekend to help cut the ribbon at CORVID Technologies’ new 250,000-square-foot facility in Mooresville.

What started with just two people and an idea has grown into a major hub for advanced missile defense, bringing high-quality jobs and cutting-edge capability to North Carolina’s Tenth District.

As I said during the event, the future of American defense is being built right here. CORVID is solving hard problems, delivering under pressure, and helping keep our warfighters ahead of the threats we face. I’m proud to have this kind of momentum—and mission—in our backyard.
